Congrats to Andrew...Appy indeed had a wrestling team in the seventies...Bob Taylor was the coach
Andrew Carter placed third at the region D wrestling tournament in the heavyweight division and qualified for the state tournament. He could possibly be the first athlete in the history of Appalachia High School to do this. Not sure if Appalachia had a team in the '70's or not. Congratulations to Andrew and Coach Luke Owens.

Who would know about past accomplishments of these wrestlers?? I would be curious to get some history about the program.

rural retreat was 1, then castlewood, northwood, and jj kelly was fourth. I think Castlewood had 4 champs gibson at 103, phillips at 135, 171, and 189. JJK had 1 champ, rose at 215.
In 1972 (I think) Larry or Gary Trigg went to or won state in his division for Appy. Not trying to take nothing away for the Carter kid though. I hope he wins his division. Good luck.

I placed 3rd in wrestling in 1974. Back then, it was the 145lb class. Gary Trigg placed 2nd in state in the same year. We both graduated at Appy in the 70's
Wow, that's great. The folks at Appalachia have NO information about the past wrestling teams. How could they found some more history about the program??
I have seen him wrestle a couple times this year. Its a shame he is a senior b/c with a couple more years experience he could really have been something. Kid has serious potential.
